This project explored how speculative industrial design could imagine an alternative present of solar cells by imagining a more resilient, hopeful narrative of the future. It first developed a far future design fiction of a fictional energy culture shown in the film and the write up. The lessons from this fictional world are then ‘backcasted’ to today to design a 3D printed biomimetic optical structure that can be developed into solar cells.
